If you have been shopping around for a new Web Site lately chances are you have read about something known as a CMS or Content Management System. These systems have actually been around for well over 6 years and are one of the main tools responsible for taking a very young and static internet and helping it grow into something much more dynamic and changing. But what exactly is the purpose of a CMS? With literally hundreds of these things floating around it can sometimes be a challenge to figure this out but they generally all offer one very critical feature…the ability to edit your own web site.
In concept this seems like a great thing to have especially when it comes to updating your web site to encourage more frequent visits and hopefully more frequent purchases without having to pay someone else to do it. The problem is that the majority of the CMS’s out there today fail miserably when it comes to allowing a non-technical user to edit and manage such content without losing extensibility or affordability. Popular Open Source CMS’s like Drupal and Joomla are great if you are a developer but can be a nightmare for the regular person. Then there are CMS’s like WordPress that do a great job at managing a Blog but suffer from very limited extensible solutions that make sense outside of a blogging environment.
So where do we turn? Where can we find a CMS package that offers ease-of-use, extensibility and affordability? I’ve done the research and I think I’ve found a clear winner. It’s called Concrete5 and it offers an editing experience easier than using a blog coupled with a robust framework that allows for building sophisticated web applications! It does it all folks. And now that it has a growing community rallying behind it I truly believe that Concrete5 is the future of online CMS. At least it will be for my customers.
